Jerome Primary School

Early Years

At Jerome we have a holistic approach to teaching the whole child, which is at the heart of the Early Years Curriculum. Throughout the course of the year, children experience meaningful and planned learning opportunities across all 7 areas of learning. Play based learning is encouraged through continuous provision and through careful observation we are able to identify next steps for each individual child. As much as possible, we use; real objects, authentic materials and open-ended resources - as this creates a sense of ‘awe and wonder’ and provides a much richer learning experience. We are weather warriors and believe that nature and the outdoors can provide us wonderful opportunities every day. We believe there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing! We promote emotional well-being, togetherness and friendship in our environment so that children feel comfortable to explore, learn or to simply begin to figure out who they are as a tiny human in this great, big world!

We were Early Adopters of the New EYFS Framework in September 2020. This is statutory in all school from Sept 2021. More information can be found at:
