Keep calm, you're doing a great job!

28 January 2021 (by admin)

As we come to the end of the fourth week of National Lockdown, I am sure we are all feeling the strain. Not being able to go about our normal lives, and finding a new 'normal for now' - again!

At home, I am sure you all have varying experiences of homeschooling. I am certainly working hard to support the homeschooling of my son, whilst being at Jerome each day - we certainly have some odd school hours at my house! And that's okay! I plead with each parent to not put too much pressure on themselves. Your best will be good enough! Remember, the most important thing you can give your child at the moment is your love and support. Being a great homeschool teacher will just be a bonus!

Schools have been required to offer a certain number of hours of remote learning a day, following the curriculum as far as we are able. It is wonderful to see so many children joining live lessons and to hear from teachers that they are receiving work regularly - but it is also okay to have a bad day, to not join every lesson, and to not complete all of the work that is set. On these days look to other lessons you can teach your child - cooking, talking about characters in a TV programme, gardening (weather permitting!), reading a story together, decorating.......these are all tasks which will support learning in different ways. Teachers would love to hear about these activities too!

In school, we continue to do our best to accommodate our key worker and vulnerable children, whilst allowing the teachers to maintain our remote learning offering for all pupils - regardless of whether they are on site or at home. We would like to offer a huge thank you to our key worker parents, who are all doing their very best to only use on site places when they cannot care for their child at home. This has allowed us to offer places to more children. We are doing our very best to accommodate all qualifying requests for onsite places and offer our thanks and appreciation for the patience of those parents who have children on a waiting list.

To finish, I offer my personal thanks - to all those key workers doing their best to keep important services running, to parents doing their best to home school their children, and to you all for following the vital message - stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives!

Stay positive and stay safe,
